The award is to encourage the participation of local developers in Open Source development work and the growth of more Open Source software (OSS) projects as well as to recognise local people who are active in OSS activities. The Open Source Software Award will be given to

EITHER

an outstanding Open Source software where the principal developer(s) of the software are Malaysians. In addition, the software must be released under at least one of the Open Source Licenses recognized by the Open Source initiative and listed at : http://www.opensource.org/licenses/index.php

OR

an outstanding person of Malaysian nationality who is active in Open Source activities. These activities may include (but are not confined to):

• participation in an OSS project by way of software development, documentation, translation, localisation etc.,
• the promotion and advocacy of OSS locally and/or internationally.

The closing date for submission is 5 August 2005. There will be a prize worth RM 5,000.00 for the winner.

The Award Ceremony will be on 6 September 2005, in conjunction with the beginning of the ICT Month 2005 Malaysia at the Malaysian International Exhibition and Convention Center (MIECC), The Mines Resort, Kuala Lumpur.
