Winners of the MNCC Excellence ICT Awards 2002/2003

The Award Ceremony for the MNCC Excellence ICT Awards 2002/2003 was held on 2 September 2003 at the Malaysian International Exhibition and Convention Center (MIECC), the Mines Resort, Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with the opening ceremony of the Malaysian ICT Week 2003. The winners below received their prizes from the Hon. Minister of Energy, Communications and Multimedia.

Excellent ICT Teacher - Dr. Mohd. Adzir Bin Mahdi

Dr. Mohd. Adzir Bin Mahdi is an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Systems Engineering and Communication, Faculty of Engineering, University Putra Malaysia. In the short span of his academic career he has won numerous local and international awards in the field of photo-electronics and telecommunication technology and more than 30 of his scientific papers have been accepted and published in reputable international technical journals. Besides teaching undergraduates, he also supervises masters and doctorate students. He also has led more than 10 R&D projects focusing on electro-optic technology, and until now he has secured 4 Malaysian and 1 USA patents for products he and his team have created.

Excellent ICT Student - Yong Yik Seng

Mr. Yong Yik Seng graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering majoring in Computer Systems from the Multimedia University in 2002. He consistently achieved excellent academic performance at the University and participated actively in extra- curricular activities. Mr. Yong was a member of the University's Robotics Development Team which won prizes in local and international Robotics competitions. Presently, he is pursuing his Masters degree programme at the Multimedia University.

Open Source Software - ADOdb

The winning software is ADOdb and the award is presented to Mr. John Lim, the principal developer of the software. ADOdb is a database abstraction library for the Open Source PHP programming language. It allows a software developer to write their database code once, then run the same code on multiple database and multiple operating system platforms. It is mature, internationally recognised and widely used and has been translated into several languages.

Local Community ICT Champion - Haliza A. Hamid

Puan Haliza A. Hamid, a residence of Shah Alam and a mother of three children started being involved actively in ICT community programs in March 2002. The community programmes that she has initiated and implemented successfully since last year are "Bicara IT" with UFM – a weekly radio program discussing ICT, "ICT Bulletin" – a project with the Shah Alam City Council and a Robotic Campaign for kindergartens and schools. Her efforts have significantly increased ICT awareness among the community in Shah Alam.

School Website Competition (Primary) - Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampong Pasir Puteh, Ipoh

Most Creative Local Mobility Application - Steve Foo Chit Chin and Lee Teck Hua

Mr. Steve Foo Chit Chin is the creator of the Advanced Mobile Image Capture Systems (AMICS). This application allows users to see real time visual information through a web camera which is attached to a central server using mobile phones.

Mr. Lee Teck Hua created the application called mobileBlog. mobileBlog is a application that will allow any Java-enabled phone with an Internet connection to remotely access, modify, update and maintain a personal web blog or journal.
