The Award Ceremony for the MNCC Excellence ICT Awards 2004 was held on 2 September 2004 at the Malaysian International Exhibition and Convention Center (MIECC), the Mines Resort, Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with Malaysian ICT Week 2004.  This year's winners are:

Excellent ICT Teacher - Prof. Dr. Tengku Mohd. Tengku Sembok

Prof. Dr. Tengku Mohd. Tengku Sembok, the Dean of the Computer Science Faculty, University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), is a much sought after ICT expert in the country. He has headed numerous Committees in Federal and State Government Agencies, particularly in helping to formulate information systems strategic planning and policy framework on implementation of large-scale national ICT projects. He has presented papers in numerous local and international conferences and scientific forums based on the subject of his research work. He has authored or co-authored over one hundred papers which are published in local and reputable international journals. Not surprisingly, he has won a number of prizes and awards during his academic career.

All in all, Prof. Tengku Mohd is a highly respected academician, administrator, teacher and researcher. The collaborative consultation work and his contribution to ICT development and implementation outside academic circles, has presented him the opportunity to influence the development of teaching curriculum with the view towards equipping computer science graduates with knowledge that is relevant and up-to-date for industry needs.

Excellent ICT Student - Toh Kok Liang

The winner, Mr. Toh Kok Liang who hails from Sibu, Sarawak obtained a first class Bachelor of Information Technology degree from the Multimedia University in 2004. Academically, he has been a consistently high achiever culminating in him being a recipient of the MMU 5th Convocation Ceremony Book Award. In addition, he was the only Malaysian Scholar in 2004 to be awarded the prestigious Siemens Youth and Knowledge Scholarship to pursue a M.Sc in Communications Engineering in Germany. He has also won the Microsoft Software Engineering Silver Medal at University level. In 2002 Mr.Toh Kok Liang was selected to undergo advanced training at the Dangseo University International Exchange Centre, Korea.

Mr. Toh Kok Liang has not just excelled academically. He has represented his University in intervarsity basketball tournaments and has contributed his time and effort selflessly to social welfare programmes by organising charity activities.

Open Source Software - PCDOM PrimaCare

The winning software is PCDOM PrimaCare with the award to be presented to Dr. Molly Cheah, the principal force behind PrimaCare. PCDOM PrimaCare has a commendable level of sophistication with screens for clinic management, patient care, financial management, pharmacy management, billings, scheduling and resource library. The software has been released for use to 50 doctors. The software also has the potential for further development which certainly will encourage wider usage especially if doctors become more ICT-savvy.

Local Community ICT Champion - Puan Zakiah bt Yusof

The winner is Puan Zakiah bt Yusof who is the Post Office Manager for the Kuala Krai branch in Kelantan. The Post Office in Kuala Krai also happens to house the Pusat Internet Desa (PID) Program initiated by the then Ministry of Energy, Communications and Multimedia. The PID is run by staff appointed by the Ministry and Puan Zakiah's role was mainly to facilitate its operations as she has to manage the postal operations. However, Puan Zakiah has given tremendous support, encouragement and various other services that has make the PID Kuala Krai one of the most successful in the country. With her energetic contributions, the PID program has reached practically all residents in Kuala Krai, thus raising the level of knowledge as well as usage of the community on ICT.

Best School Website - Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (Perempuan) Methodist, Kuala Lumpur

The winner for the Best School Website Competition goes to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (Perempuan) Methodist, Kuala Lumpur. The school's website scores heavily on creativity & concept, performance, information and organization. The website also provides a good and consistent interface.

Most Creative Mobility Application - I-Navigate Sdn Bhd

The winner of the Most Creative Local Mobile Application goes to I-Navigate Sdn Bhd with the myCar application. The application is a powerful yet personal mobile alert service that allows any mobile user to send a motor-vehicle related alert message  to  a car driven by owner or driver.
