RE: [ossig] (Fwd) STI News: Firm discovers good IT help hard to find

The biggest issue here is that despite the so-called "shortage", they
(employers) are still paying "peanuts" but expect "world-class" support.
Furthermore, I think employers are just trying to use this as an excuse to
promote the usage of lower cost worker from say, "India". Employers are only
using this as an excuse to lobby our govt. to increase the work permit. I
have seen a lot of talented programmers not getting thru HR Dept.
A lot of good programmers had been overlooked and I don't know why (probably
bad Feng Shui) that Malaysian employers almost always put the wrong guy in
charge.

imho, one of the root causes is our education system, as Teoh puts it
"A's == mighty $$$$ ". Also, it encourages passivity, and memorizing
facts.
It will be tough to compel a revamp of our public education system.
What we may do (immediately) is to raise our charges' standard/
capability. Make them realise that "A"s plays a small part in their
career.

Is such a survey part of ossig's domain or mncc's as it concerns the IT
profession?
