Someone I met said something to me along these lines once:
"Degree holders (ie people with good academic performance) usually end up as
salarymen/women their entire career. Those who don't do so well academically
know they have to work harder and end up doing business of some kind"
Again this is generalisation but my personal experience fits this...grads start work
and secure relatively well paid jobs initially and don't have to slog to make a
living...this steady income lifestyle becomes such a warm and fuzzy comfortable
feeling that it becomes a lifetime career. The people who didn't or couldn't get the
paper quals slog like hell, their first years are tough..but they get tough, street
smart learning the hard way, they fail, try again and again....many years later, they
have their own businesses and earning more money than their salaried peers.
Check out how many people *owning* Mercs and other cars have degrees ? My
bet is the majority are businessmen without paper quals.
Cheers
Meng
