Re: [ossig] Linux stickers?

I remember someone mentioning that Microsoft were hoping to
move into the embeddded market, to the extent that automotive
control systems might run MS. There's a lot of software in
modern cars. What happens if "BSOD" hits your ABS brakes?

I suspect, you can't dismantle an entire car - the firmware
and OS of the control system may be quite well protected. But
I did hear there was a modification industry in UK where they
rewrote the EPROM that controlled the engine timing system on
some Ford models, to
give you more performance (with greater wear). Maybe they do
that everywhere now??? Overclocking the engine, basically :)

Aren't cars open source? Given that one can dismantle an entire car,
improve/modify the entire engine, change the look and feel (assuming you
know how, and have the means to), and subsequently re-sell a 'new'
version...

hmmm.. it make sense.. I'm sure they'll agree on OSS/FSF. "all cars should
be free, you only pay for the maintenance" :-)
