[ossig] Linux notebook

I'm looking for a linux notebook. my budget is around
RM5,000-6,000. Wireless card and CD writer is a must.

I have bad experience in installing linux in my old
compaq and ibm notebook. it's take sometime for me to
fix it. Now, I'm looking for seemless installation,
plug and play, anyone has just bought a notebook and
install linux in it? My main concern is the wireless
card support.

I heard Sony VAIO pcgrs615sp and toshiba satellite
pro6100 is good in linux, is that true?

did you know that redhat9, the ppp protocal is
selected off in kernel? I do 'make xconfig' and
compile it, it's stop half way, I'm not sure what is
the problem.
I'm not sure whether it's compiler version problem or
just I hack too much, I did modify some code but I
forgot where already. so anyone who have successful
compile redhat9 kernel with that compiler ship with
redhat9 will assure I'm the one who make mistake. And
I try to recompile with the new source.
thanks.
