[ossig] Books - costs and online resources

True.

It's bad, Malaysia is the most expensive
country I know for book costs compared to income, making
the high priced computer books very inaccessible.

Does anybody know why many Asian countries have 'Asian
edition' books which are cheaper than the USD equivalent,
but not here?

So, my proposal
is that everybody needs to get a credit card and
start buying things online from the large, reputable
sources. Otherwise the online sales industry will
never take off in this country, and Kinokuniya and MPH
can continue their monopoly in high-rental locations,
meaning higher cost books. Books should be a commodity,
not a luxury!

However the open content movement is expanding, more and
more books are being published online under open licenses,
as well as in paid, paper versions.

(lots more of their full books online as well)

for me, I guess sometime it's good to have something
to hold on your hand and it's better for your eye too.
but the book, it's too expensive here, we should make
knowledge cheaper to enquire. Internet does help to
give us the explosure but becuase of not well
organized or the intended reader scope is too large,
we might end up spending more time(money) and effort
in it at the end.
well, either reading book or internet, the best way to
know is by asking the right question to the right
people, it's always faster. I'm really impress by the
"asking question" culture and try to learn from there.

BTW,

There's a book with all these acronyms in KLCC's
Kinokuniya,
although why would anyone would buy a book when
there are
so many online lists?
