my message was in response to reboots for security fixes. the point i was
making is that freebsd has not had a kernel related vulnerability in quite
a long while. only a kernel related vulnerability (including the tcpip
stack) would necessitate a reboot. the freebsd advisories _include_
vulnerability announcements for other packaged software within the ports
collection including ssh, ssl, sendmail and the usual suspects. however, a
bug fix for any of these would only require a daemon restart, not a reboot
of the server. hence, freebsd's excellent uptime statistics.
