Re: [ossig] Informal poll - what open source do you want at FOSSCONexhibition?

Maybe the best way, that would not involve any accounting
difficulties, would be for you to bring some blank CD's
to the exhibition (free entry to the exhibition, remember...),
and just give them to other people (making some instant friends!),
or bring along lots of blank CD's, get us to duplicate some
open source CD's for you, then hand them out to all your
IT friends for free.

We noticed that if we have lots of OSS CD's lying around here,
people from all over MIMOS come round and ask to borrow
the discs. They usually forget to return them, but still,
we achieve our objective - less chance they will go proprietary.
No doubt it's much easier and faster than raising a purchase
order for some proprietary software. So based on that, I
would say if every company has a big stack of OSS CD's
just lying around on desks, they will quietly get installed
and used, even if there is no official policy.

Difficulty with C-O-D is (according to someone in my team
who did the investigation) that you need to physically fill
in a form and go to the Pos counter for *each* package you send.
Without C-O-D, we can just give the postal packages to
the existing MIMOS post room services where they put
some kind of prepaid stamp on the envelope, and
(presumably) don't have to queue at the Pos office.
Also Pos takes 15% + RM0.30 per package for the
C-O-D service, and the minimum C-O-D price of a
package is RM5.

on me to make a small profit from this. It turns out
that turning the send-CD programme into C-O-D is
going to be quite a pain (ask me if you care for
details).

Interested. Mail me off-list or spam the list if others care...
