and herein lies the problem. in a subject that teaches software
engineering, i'd reckon 90% or more of the students do not care about
OSS. they think they spend great amounts of moolah, and in return
program for nothing.

thats the attitude i get, not from the uni students from the uni i'm in
only, but several others around the area.

also, teaching one form of software engineering (to either software eng.
or comp sci students) and then, within the same 3 months, telling them
there's another, may confuse them in such a short time.

(this assuming you're "editing" the already existing software
engineering class(es))

how do you teach/tell a student of the value of free software? this is
an attitude that must be mastered, not learnt. it comes with playing
with free software, appreciating it, using it thoroughly, contributing
to it, etc...

ethics is something else, that i find is hard to teach. malaysian
schools (i'm not from the local education stream) teach moral studies,
am i right? what do they plan on imparting from such a class?

ditto with a class on ethics.

this is a great idea. this is done in practice too, imho.

but what would the majority of 300 students studying Operating Systems
understand: a python simulator (with graphics) of a process scheduler,
or hardcore C code of the linux scheduler?
