well, phpNuke is pretty good, but i still think it is *too* big for a simple site. PhpBB is a forum, so unless you want to keep the portal forum like, or hack a new theme...

and if you want a phpBB2 based portal.. there are some projects running last i read, but i myself am playing and hacking around its code to create a portal that uses phpBB2 backend DB and combine with my own CMS... if you need the source, let me know... i do plan to release it when less people will laugh my crappy codes :P
