It really interesting (or insulting) to me to read the word above. I
wonder why
keen contributors are welcome to contact Charles (Colin) and not
Bustamam Harun
( bustamam98@yahoo.com )?
What a messs...
I think i have to admit that bustamam did some mistake...
first mistake :-
register at http://l10n.openoffice.org/localization_responsibilities.html
as malay, chinese and tamil translator, i think it should be for malay only
2nd mistake :-
didnt commit/officialize the translation to upstream.
3nd mistake:-
didnt merge it to the 1.1 brach (or HEAD? )
my mistake it not telling him in the mailing list the above thing..
Because Bustamam Harun didn't step up and join the OOo team officially.
I've e-mailed him with regards to this, but it seems lots of us don't
even want openoffice.org accounts.
he did
http://l10n.openoffice.org/localization_responsibilities.html
but his other mistake is not publishing the singa emas website to that
page (my asking the webmaster or etc...)
from my experince, my gabai.sf.net also not listed at the tranlation
team page, i've realize that 6 month afterward, and asking them to add.
So if its found to be an insult, I suggest all you translators go ahead
and get accounts on openoffice.org and start syncing back with their
trees - not running separate projects.
i think no need to hace a/c at ooo.org
there are several other team that listed with external url.
but i think what's import is to commit upstream.
And I want contributors not translators - OOo has many other projects.
We have CDROM projects, OOo in Schools projects, and many more. Please
don't get it wrong.
OK,
should OOo ppl from several project discus this thing at OOo main
mailing list or crossposting between several OOo mailing list?
I dont know OOo as much as bustamam and colin, but sure there is
equivalent to gnome's gnome-i18n@gnome.org in OOo
I also wonder why the information regarding localization effort can
be found at
www.bytebot.net/openoffice/malaysian.html and not Projek Singa Emas at
http://oo-l10n-my.sourceforge.net ?
Because thats localisation only into BM. Which is unfair, since we have
to deal with Chinese and Indian localisations too, which Bustamam
doesn't.
It suppose only for BM,
Tamil and chinese were done by other team.
you 've got to deal with tamil team.
this guy bharateeyaoo@ncb.ernet.in
chinese translation were done by OOo internal...
Bustamam in e-mails have said heaps of people do ask him with regards to
Indian/Chinese language ones, and he just sends details along to them
with links. The oo-l10n site has NO such links. The site is also in the
Malay language, so people NOT understanding it will find it diffcult to
move around.
Is this intentional or the jurnalist does not know the real fact?
The real fact here is that I'm the OpenOffice.org Marketing Contact for
Malaysia, and marketing related things like this is meant to go to me.
Bustamum is really just a person into the translation project, that is
not even official - there is no official BM distro of OOo, its just
currently a patch applied to it.
Ok....
Is't a resposibility for translator to create a distro?
OOo is weird...
Full explaination is really appreciated.
If this is still not a "full explanation", please don't hesitate to
continue writing back.
Recap:
1. Contributors are welcome to contact me - not translators - if someone
wanted to start the Tamil port (Officially!), I'm someone whom you can
get in touch with
you guy want to differentiate ta_IN and ta_MY?
2. Articles are short - space constraints apply - you can't fill all the
words in there
3. Maybe its time to actually start working with OOo and having an
"official" port, and not something that's done just to translate the UI
and give it off in a tarball
4. There is currently no support for non-Linux users (this is being
worked on)
5. The malaysian.html site at bytebot, has a link to a "dictionary" that
Mimos has created (well, AsiaOSC)
6. As MarCon, if people want to change to OOo, they can contact me for
help. If they want a localised version, I can tell them it works with
1.0.3, and nothing really much more. And more...
