odd. what were your mount options?

nope. NFS is wonderful. it just needs tweaking to work at a reasonably
expected performance.

things to check:
mount options, in terms of rsize/wsize, optimisations are required
if still fails, error message is important
else, run tcpdump and watch it where it dies

switches seem to work better than hubs especially if there is already a
lot of existing network traffic around.
