[ossig] For new initiates in the ways of the source
Hello all,
I've noted that there are new folks to these lists.
Welcome! If you're here to troll, however, go away -
we don't want you here. These aren't the lists you're
looking for.
However, as with everything where there's an
underlying culture and collective knowledge sometimes
the initiates (okay, aka newbies, n00bs etc. - though
we hold in great disdain script-kiddie speak like
n00b, l337 and so on) will innocently (or perhaps not
so innocently) ask / comment in a manner that produces
sometimes scathing comebacks from the older members
(though these lists seem to have gentler long-fangs in
them compared to some other lists).
(Of course, I understand that initiates are not just
students and young 'uns fresh from school but also
older folk from industry or government or academia -
the following applies to all of you.)
So, in the spirit of saving grief on all sides, if
you're new here, please read the following first - it
would give you an insight into the attitudes and
motivations of our members:

words you're likely to see)
