In the book "Rebel Code", it was reported that Linus on a trip to Canberra went to the National Aquarium (I know where it is so I can vouch for it) and had some fun with some fairy penguins. There is mention in LKML archived emails about it. And that's where this notion came from from 2.0 announcement: "Some people have told me they don't think a fat penguin really embodies the grace of Linux, which just tells me they have never seen a angry penguin charging at them in excess of 100mph. They'd be a lot more careful about what they say if they had." -- Linus Torvalds Overstated of course since fairy penguins are about a foot tall :) -- "Optimized, readable, on time; Pick any two."
