I think that pretty much true for anything.  Not just IT. You probably don't 
want to see a doctor who don't keep themself up to the latest medicine or 
know what is going on inside your body.

 	I thought people usually copy notes and old exams from the previous 
semester. As for text, I believe a lot of people simply photocopy them from 
someone who made a poor copy from some other copy of an edition that since 
obsolete.
