[ossig] Problem installing FreeBSD

I have installed Mandrake 9.2. I wish to install FreeBSD 5.2.1 This is the layout of my harddisk:

            First Last
 # Type Sector Sector Offset Length Filesystem Type (ID) Flags
-- ------- -------- --------- ------ --------- ---------------------- ---------
 1 Primary 0 4016249 63 4016250 Linux (83) Boot (80)
 2 Primary 4016250 23760134 0 19743885 Extended (05) None (00)
 5 Logical 4016250 20643524 63 16627275 Linux (83) None (00)
 6 Logical 20643525 23085404 63 2441880 Linux (83) None (00)
 7 Logical 23085405 23760134 63 674730 Linux swap (82) None (00)
 3 Primary 23760135 28659959 0 4899825 FreeBSD (A5) None (00)
   Primary 28659960 78156224 0 49496265 Free Space None (00)

I booted up using the FreeBSD installation disk, and proceed as usual. The installation process got hung when FreeBSD is writing to the 3rd primary partition (its own partition). I waited for more than 3 hours without response.

While using FreeBSD's fdisk, there was a message saying the 1st Primary partition might not be aligned properly. Do you think this might be the cause?

I know nothing about the physical layout of a harddisk and all the geometry stuff. Are there any alternatives for me?

By the way, the FreeBSD bootloader got installed succesfully, giving me an option to boot to (1) Linux or (3) FreeBSD. When I choose FreeBSD, it complained that the kernel is not found. Choosing (1) will load GRUB.

Any clues? Thank you in advance!

Stuck,
Hanxue
