I have proposed that the root user be disabled by default, and the user
must consciously want to re-enable the root account. Stolen from Mac OS
X, we might give this a shot.

Ha, Colin, thanks for your answer ! - I had my 110 students of Data and
Computer Security filling a sheet of 'permissions' for Unix (Solaris 9) and
(their) Windows as lab exercise.
One word: education.
Wrong: three words: education, education, education !

All except three run their W** as administrator. The trouble to me isn't so
much that they do, but rather that they don't even seem to blush. 
Our Prime Minister (The Star of today) mentioned something about our
'Leaders 2020'.

No comment; the sysadmin in JB could as well have been a(n ex-) student of
mine. For example.
