[ossig] Invitation as a panelist to the National Open Source Draft PolicyDocument
On behalf:
Dear Sir/Madam,
My name is Anita Zahara Binti Abu. I am currently working at MIMOS
Berhad as the Secretariat for National Open Source Policy for Malaysia.
The purpose of this e-mail is to seek a public point of view for the
National Open Source Draft Policy document. Before I explain further on
the draft policy document, allow me to give a brief introduction on the
above mention project.
MIMOS Berhad is an Information Communication Technology (ICT)
organization that functions as an adviser to the Malaysian Government on
technologies, policies and strategies relating to ICT development.
During the 16th Malaysia Super Corridor Implementation Council Meeting
(MSC ICM), in October 2003, MIMOS Berhad has been given a mandate to
lead the development of National Open Source Policy for Malaysia.
1. We have started the project in November 2003 and formed a team
consisting of Secretariat, Steering Committee and Technical Working
Group(TWG).
2. The Steering Committee and the TWG consists the key players (public,
private and education and community) of Open Source in Malaysia.
3. During the first Steering Committee meeting on the 17th December
2003, the proposed timeline has been approved and the TWG groups have
been identified.
4. We have also successfully conducted two TWG meetings in January and
February 2004 and received valuable inputs for the Draft Policy.
5. During the second Steering Committee meeting on the 4th March 2004,
we have presented the draft policy and it has been approved.
Hence, we are now at the stage to seek a public consultation on the
Draft Policy. During our last TWG's meeting, we have agreed that our
Public Consultation will be addressed to a specific target and focus
group (FG) rather than to a general public.
On behalf of MIMOS Berhad, I am honored to invite you to be part of the
panelist to review and give suggestions to the Draft Policy.
