You are right. Everyone does the best he / she can. I try to do my best
where I can.

Good to know that there is a Debian mirror !

The sad thing is, that this was a very laudable, personal effort by a
former colleague; and not officially supported.
At the end of the chain of arguments you'll find political reasons.
'Political' in the wider sense, of cause. The notion of 'sharing' is not
exactly prevailing, yet, on too many levels. If there was any short-term
tangible profit, we'd get GByte of transfer allowances. All of us.

> Don't just blame only and say "Hey... why never do mirror for this and that package". I can provide all the mirror you want.

Actually, I'd do that myself if the bandwidth was supported (see above).

You didn't get me quite right.
I do complain, but not about lack of mirrors. There are plenty.

Everyone talks about using resources sensibly; saving valuable
bandwidth; keeping the environment green and healthy, and whatnot.

My 'complaints' are similar to earlier ones seen here:
How can a datacenter in US be faster, cheaper and more reliable than a
local one ? And if that happens to be the case, should we now migrate or
support local products ? Everyone takes his own decision.
There is a mirror in Zürich that has never let me down; is quite fast to
link to; at times faster than local ones, for which do you configure ?
Again, everyone's individual decision.
For years and years I used to collect empty glass bottles, separate tin
and alu from gardening and edible garbage with pleasure, overseas.
The campaign is to do likewise locally. I'll be the first to
participate. But so long I'd need to drive the to-be-recycled stuff with
our car over a congested highway to the collection station.
Wonder, what is worse for the environment, then !
Is there no reason to complain ? We cannot do everything ourselves,
individually. A collective effort is required; whichever the topic.
If everyone in his / her 'seat' pulled on that common string; had a
'general public' in mind, it worked.
Mirrors are a great example. Whereas I try my best in the educational
field - and please, keep complaining whenever I slacken ! - I am not
predestined to install and maintain a collection station for household
waste. Nor to work on the infrastructure of communication links to allow
fast local mirrors.
As long as there is no collection station I'll keep throwing -
reluctantly - valuable metal tins and empty, brown bottles into the
lorries of Alam Flora (Flora = the goddess of flowers).
And using fast, reliable mirrors; wherever they are located.
