Re: [ossig] CA open-sources Ingres database - News & Technology- CNETAsia

you may want to consider firebird, especially where the database needs
to handle transactions.

firebird was recently voted top 5 open source project by the linuxuser &
developer expo:
http://www.linuxuser.co.uk/expo/index.php?option=content&task=blogsection&id=8&Itemid=87

firebird lost out by only 2 votes in a poll in 2003. But read the
postings:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?s=&threadid=116360&perpage=15&pagenumber=1

the only reason firebird is not more popular is because there is not
enough 'textbooks' on it. example, i am using an ms-sql book for my
firebird related projects.

if you have been using ms-jet (ms-access) or ms-sql, conversion to
firebird is very easy. in fact, converting ms-jet to firebird is easier
than converting ms-jet to ms-sql.

and it is really free - my no.1 reason. my no.2 reason is - it is really
easy. my no.3 reason is stored procedures and user defined functions.
