wouldnt google give (as part of it's own appliance license, whatever that
is) a right to use to the user ? if google doesnt give this right to use,
then under what rights is the user using the appliance, even by connecting
to it ?

unfortunately so, it is ambigious. and sadly will remain so until FSF
specifically disallows/allows it in GPLv3 or the current versions of GPL
are tested in a court of law.
