Like the days when Big Blue made Big Money selling Big Iron ... do
don't get fired for this choice ... the questionably "warm and fuzzy"
feeling of the "solution" is backed up by a multi billion dollar
company (and not a RM2 paid up capital Open Source solution support
outfit)
1. Many are "brought up" on Windows, so when they choose servers for
their company, they choose the familiar
2. Anything else is risky unless IT Dept people are competent enough to
handle UNIX, Linux etc
3. Look for IT Skills in the job market and likely you will find V
Basic and Windows skills, if all your staff are MCSEs dare you take on
Linux/BSD ?
Odd thing is they rather pay M$ obscene amounts of money / or risk
using Pirated Software instead of investing in skilled people
Like it or not, UNIX/Linux people cost more.....
I have a question for you employers out there, *IF* you have the
budget, how much are you willing to pay (monthly salary) for the
following:
1. Competent UNIX/Linux Sysadmin - say 5 years experience ?
2. Expert UNIX/Linux Sysadmin - say 10 years experience ?
3. Competent UNIX/Linux Developer - say 5 years experience ?
4. Expert UNIX/Linux Developer - say 10 years experience ?
Now, the reality ... how many *HAVE* the budget to pay these salaries ?
Cheers
