[ossig] Predictions I Made in 2001

Was doing a google over the internet for keywords with my firm's name.
Part market research / part wasting time.

Anyway, I stumbled across a discussion submission I made way back in 2001:

This is simply my opinion, so do not sue me if anything goes wrong (I
have made my investment).

I believe that in this next 3 years for the Asian market, we will see
the following main trends:

B2B: Emergence of mother portals: which will see consolidation of portal
service providers but localisation of buyer / seller client service. For
example there will be a mother portal of Asian Computers but the
communication with the respective user/buyer will be localised. A Korean
buyer/seller will be serviced by a Korean sub-portal, but the
information is aggregated through the mother portal to the other
sub-portals. Read Megatrends to gain some principles in globalisation
behaviour patterns.

B2C: Internet banking and e-payment solutions. There are visible demand
for these services. The next step is figuring out how to make them
secure and affordable.

Intranet: e-services for internal business processes. The internet has
spawned several robust e-services application - the next logical step is
perhaps to implement them for internal enterprise use. e-groups project
management, e-commerce procurement, e-search knowledge database, etc.
E-businesses will be developed through the intranet (where controls and
processes can be implemented) rather than direct to the internet.

Technology: Linux and Open Source: MS funded half of India's technology
industry in the last decade, expect the same for Linux in this decade -
as the surviving US dot-coms learns the hard lessons of cost control.

These are my personal views and I have made my investment in the
intranet and linux trends.

well that was 3 years ago. and unfortunately, turbolinux never quite
made it - losing out in its business model. intranet is very slowly
picking up among small business but will be a very dynamic market.
groupware, intranet, file manager are still new concepts for the small
business.

Anybody else made any predictions ?
