What's the output of "xset q"?
You're 100% sure there's no screensaver? Besides the built-in
screensavers of KDE and Gnome (and probably other desktops as well),
there's xscreensaver to worry about.
It's been a long time since I last played with DPMS (last time was with
my first install of RH9) but I don't think that's how DPMS is set.
Vague, hazy and unreliable memory suggests that it was set in either
the screens or monitor section, with either
Option "DPMS" "no"
or
Open "DPMS" 1200 1800 2400 # numbers are seconds before standby,
suspend, off. 0 to disable. man xset for more details
I'll have to find my RH9 XF86Config file for that.
