Hi William,

1) If you are still troublehooting with the firewall off, it would help - Firewall problem removed
2) You are working with IP in quad notations, it would help - DNS problem removed
3) Next time when you can ping GW, do so with the routing option and determine the route as this might help.

At times when you cant ping the GW, can you ping other machines on LAN?
Check also if other machine on LAN can ping to your machine AND GW, when your problem PC cannot ping to the GW. If they can, most likely a switch that is faulty can also bring about this problem.

I am using a static IP for the server, if the IP is taken
then during the boot up process, the interface would fail to
come up.  The interface in my situation is up every boot but
only unable to "ping" the gw every other time.  I am
guessing something is "remembering" my boot ups.
