firstly, Don't we already have cygwin for that already? and it has been around
for a long time. How many people you know opt for Windows 2000 with cygwin
instead of Linux/BSD ?
2nd, I believe these are for people who generally not willing or not going to
run Linux/unix/bsd in the first place. What, you perhaps get it probably
some people run a few application like postgresql which was never really
ported to windows in the first place. Joe win admin may like it because it
make things easier for him but people who are used to unix would probably run
some flavours of Linux. Honestly, I am so used to forward slash and back
slash seems counter intuitive.
while I feel this is interesting but it still doesn't make any sense for me
personally to deploy this within organization I work in. Windows server
license still a hell lot more expensive than linux. Further more, I have to
make too many adjustment to existing network configuration, just to get
perhaps a few nice gui, risk of viruses etc.... I have to relearn how to do
quite a few things I normally do it on linux/bsd... and If I really need or
want something like active directory instead of openldap, wouldn't running
novell''s on linux be a better replacement?
