I suppose what I was  trying to articulate  before (and failed) can be
expressed much   more clearly than  what I'd  tried before, in  a nice
syllogism:  (a) Debian  users tend  to be  religous zealots about  the
distro; (b) of all distro religions Debian seems to be the most suited
to  "custom projects" (i.e.  slack  userbase is  too small/old, RH too
newbie/corporate, Gentoo  too  hax0rrific); therefore (c) most  custom
projects  which use a  distro at  all (as opposed  to the roll-yer-own
Linux) tend to be Debian-based.
