[ossig] Three former BEA execs migrate to open source

by LinuxWorld News Desk

(September 30, 2004) - Can a new Seattle-based open source start-up
become "the Dell of the software industry"? That's the question being
asked by analysts commenting on the launch this week of SourceLabs, a
VC-funded, subscription-based services company offering certification,
testing, and distribution of existing open-source software.

"We promise not to lock you in, ever," declates the new company at its
Web site. "SourceLabs will not lock you into 'our' technology," it
continues, "We compete and thrive by providing excellent service, not
because of our ability to tie your applications to technology we control."

The driving forces behind SourceLabs are: Byron Sebastian, former BEA
vice president and general manager of WebLogic (now founder and CEO);
Cornelius Willis, former BEA vice president of developer marketing at
BEA Systems (now VP, sales and marketing); and Will Pugh, former BEA
principal technologist (now chief architect).
