It works, it's great, it's DANGEROUS. If you stop thinking about it
even for a second you can make HORRIBLE TERRIBLE MISTAKES that turn
your precious data into swiss cheese - or worse (like stinky
gorganzola, or perhaps even <shudder> Chesdale!). I would consider it
production-ready, but not idiot-proof. So webservers and the like, go
right ahead (but take your backups!). Banks or fire-control
systems... better wait.

I used it on a dedicated 100Mbps network and was quite pleased with
the results. Be sure you test any failover VERY carefully though, and
docuement the hell outta your procedures for failing over, failing
back, recovery, shutdowns, startups, etc. etc. etc.

The catch to DRBD is that it's not hot-hot yet (or at least it wasn't
last year, it might be now). So you have to make pretty damn sure
that the "cold" partner is NEVER going to write to the DRBD
filesystem. That alone would probably make it unsuitable for your
example of /etc and /var.

But warts and bumps aside, it's fsckin' cool technology (pun
intended).
