what would be critical would be finding out /why/ they were moving to M$. 
any migration from the status quo involves cost, and if the org is willing 
to pay this cost, then something substantial must have convinced them to do 
so. this could perhaps be due to FUD spread by the vendor or just 
misconceptions/myths about OSS being perpetuated.

so, key to halting this migration would be to find out what this reason was 
and then countering that.

a technical argument won't help much me thinks, since they already are 
thinking of spending more money for what they currently believe to be a 
better technical solution. i'd instead adopt a business reason.
