Re: [ossig] OSC Artwork

Dear Dr Molly,

Thank you for having interest to know more about us. We are pleased to give you an overview on our operating model.

OSC Sdn Bhd is a commercial entity. We will eventually be marketing Open Source products and services, provide consultancy and support. We do not intend to market any specific product, or be tied down to any brand. We want to be 'vendor-independent', so that we can source for the best solutions to our client without being bias.

However, being in Open Source business, we will have to do our bit on spreading the knowledge and philosophy of Open Source to the public. Open Source Community Club (OSC Club) is where we are doing community service. We have allocated a certain amount of funds, generated from our commercial businesses, towards this. The club is not a commercial business, neither it is profit orientated. We feel this is the best way to get the country migrating towards Open Source. In this aspect, we seek support from Open Source enthusiast, to give guidance to our OSC Club members, give presentation, seminars, etc.

We have a very distinctive marketing strategy to promote a Linux distro into Malaysia. We realised that there is a huge marketing potential in Malaysia, and the desktop distro market is almost untapped. So far Linux penetration is only visible in the server market. Our plan is to educate the public first by giving them the opportunity to work on a Linux distro. We plan to start with the education sector, the colleges and universities to be more specific. We will then move on to the secondary schools (Ages 13 - 17) in the later half of year 2005. We have signed MOU's with some colleges and universities to launch Open Source Community Club (OSC Club) and managed them jointly. We plan to bring the Linux and open source knowledge to the students, by breaking the COST barrier. We will give workshop / tutorial / train the trainers and create some activities and projects for them. The members of the club will pass on the knowledge from one to another (seniors to juniors) .We will co-ordinate the activities of the club, provide trainers, provide distros, training material, etc; and eventually hand it over to the students to run it as any other clubs or societies in the universities.

The OSC Club will be launched in January 2005. We are targeting a minimum of 12,000 higher education students in the first 6 months of operation.

If you have any idea, commercial or otherwise, that may benefit OSC Sdn Bhd or OSC Club, please feel free to contact us to discuss it. We will appreciate it.

Best Regards.

Just curious. Is the Open Source Community Sdn Bhd a company earmarked
for future collaborators or its your own company and you're just
inviting other open source enthusiasts to participate with you, not
necessarily being part of the mentioned company?
