he actually makes sense, and in effect as he says at the start, that paper 
is esr's "the cathedral and the bazaar" updated for today's economic models 
with open source software as a major factor. in fact, he eloquently 
articulated "differentiating software" and "non-differentiating software" 
clearly, and this is becoming the dominant business model of many 
companies. OSSPIP folk will remember my 80/20 rule[1]. :)
