2 choices I think for inkjets: HP or Epson

I prefer HP, the drivers are open source and have worked well for me,
including their all-in-ones (PSC series). Supported via foomatic-filters
for CUPS. I haven't looked at whether 3rd party refills are available
for HP printers.

Epson

Supported via gimp-print which can be called via CUPS (though I would
check which models carefully first) and generally there are also 3rd
party refills for Epson inkjets readily available.
