I happened to be talking to this debian guy at LCA05 and he said one of 
the main reasons that the Debian project is no longer in the limelight 
is because of all the internal flames/infighting that the leadership 
had. This negative energy took away focus from actually getting stuff done.

If that can happen to a big, established and successful project like 
Debian (which even has a Social Contract going for it), what chance does 
a simple magazine have then?

Let's just focus on keeping the mag running for now.
