Well said.

Several lifetimes ago, I implemented a DRM system similar to the one
this document has. Not only was the DRM system an absolutely horrendous
to set up  but users found it extremely irritating and counter-intuitive
(what do you mean I can only print the PDF file 3 times? I /paid/ for
it, damnit).

DRM has not taken on because users don't want it. It's still alive
because there is substantial pressure from those who want to introduce
scarcity in an environment where such a notion is just not natural.
