[ossig] SOSA - Singapore Open Source Alliance

Well... It finally happened, but it happened in Singapore rather than in
M'sia.

Oh.. BOSSA (Business Open Source Software Alliance), where art thou? [1]

I do like the bit where David Tang, of Novell S'pore states of the local
School Authorities :

Quote :

"people would generally go with what is acceptable and widely used,
rather than try something different." - Singapore School Authorities
when asked about their stance on Open Source by David Tang, Novell
Singapore

Truly Pathetic Response from them. Truly.

Is education truly about making sure you _know_ Proprietary systems or
making sure you know your _stuffs_ regardless of the platforms/systems?

Isn't it about encouraging thinking and problem solving and not only
educating them about what's "acceptable" and "widely used"?

I quote Dr. David Hakken (or was it someone else??) on his presentation
in one of our Meetups :

"Creating a society of Homer Engineers" [2]

[1] BOSSA was actually my answer to the BSA which keeps raiding the
local shops for Piracy and yet not educating them that there are other
alternatives besides proprietary systems. It was supposed to be a banded
consortium of Open Source Companies in M'sia which seeks to promote and
train and receive grants/contracts which is too large for a single
entity to comprehend and thus the need to work together as a team.

[2] Homer Simpson - The Push Button Engineer in the Nuclear Power Plant
which is akin to the society which now has a multitude of "experts",
it's hard to see the water from the crowding trees.
