Objectives

As part of its OSS101 programme to create awareness of the benefits and to promote the usage of open-source software (OSS), the MNCC Open Source SIG (MNCC-OSSIG) is holding a seminar and a workshop at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in Kota Samarahan, Sarawak, Malaysia.

The seminar will introduce open-source software (OSS) in general to those who are interested to know more about it. In particular they will attempt to demonstrate to the attendees how OSS can be used on a daily basis to enrich their personal computing experience and to present to them a case study on how to build a business from OSS. Presentations on Linux certification and standards will also be made.

The two day workshop will provide hands-on training to the attendees on the popular Linux operating environment on PCs as well as office productivity applications. At the end of the workshop, the attendees should be in a position to start using a Linux PC for their personal computing needs.

Workshop Programme Outline

This is a hands-on interactive workshop on introducing the participants to the Linux operating environment. Attendees will receive course materials and Linux software CDs.
